Welcome to the German presentation at MIDEM 2012!
"The German Way of Music" is meeting with an enthusiastic response.
The "German Way of Music" has established itself at MIDEM as a seal of quality for successful creativity. It is attracting guests from over 80 countries to the world's largest music fair. They come to the German Pavilion to experience the latest titles, catalogues, productions and videos from Germany. All genres are included, from Classics to World Music, from Rock to Pop, Hip Hop and Dance as well as Jazz. As the world's fourth largest recorded music market, Germany is also a sought-after market for international repertoire.
The German music industry is also enjoying success in the exploitation of their assets in digital business, although recorded music remains their business mainstay. At 81 percent, the CD has remained by far the largest source of sales in the German music market. In fact, including all physical formats such as singles, DVD-Audio and SACD, prerecorded cassettes and LPs, it accounts for 85 percent. A further eight percent is contributed by sales of music videos.
Four out of ten Germans (39.6 percent) buy music at least once a year. The largest group is constituted by occasional buyers, i.e. those who purchase one to three music products a year and who account for 25.9 percent of the entire population. 9.4 percent of the population are average buyers, who purchase four to nine products a year. The group of intensive buyers (more than nine products a year) accounts for 4.3 percent.
The over 8,000 participants to MIDEM are able to listen to music from Germany and engage in business negotiations at the stands, which are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
The German music industry's joint stand at MIDEM has been made possible through the combined efforts of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) and the German Music Publishers' Association (DMV).
They all invite MIDEM participants to attend the official German presentation.
